1. AMIR JOHNSON (Celtics): The former Raptor makes his return to Toronto Wednesday and I'm sure it will be an emotional night. He's one of my all-time favorite people in my 18 years as a broadcaster. It’s a tough list to get on and has nothing to do with hoops. Amir is a class act and a true gentleman who gave it his all on the floor each and every day. Toronto was fortunate to have him. I’m happy he's with a good team in Boston and contributing.  Good things do happen to good people.

2.  MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST (Hornets): The Charlotte forward has been given the green light to resume basketball activities and practise. There’s no timeline yet on his return but when he does it will give the team a huge boost. Kidd-Gilchrist is a terrific competitor and outstanding defender whose offensive game has improved. He'll be a big addition to their lineup and I'm sure it will help them get back on track.

3. ENES KANTER (Thunder): I know that OKC had to match Portland's high offer sheet to the centre and his salary is high. I understand why he gets knocked around for his poor defence, but the guy can score and rebound (11.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game on 57 per cent shoting) and has done a very nice job for coach Billy Donovan off the bench. He has good skills and a sweet shooting touch. When they put him in a two-man game he's a tough cover. NBA teams need second-unit guys who can come in and help give them a shot in the arm. Kanter is proving he can do that.

4. C.J. MILES (Pacers): He's had opportunities over the years in the league and has been inconsistent, but I really like what he's done in Indy this season. He's been effective off the bench averaging 13 points per game and he can stroke it from deep range (36 per cent on threes). In today’s NBA, it is so important to have guys who can space the floor for your team. Miles has found his niche as a pro in that role. So often it takes being in the right system with the right teammates for it to all lock in. Miles has been sound for the Pacers.

5. JERRYD BAYLESS (Bucks): I was watching some of their game Tuesday night versus the Heat and Bayless was important to their success in the win with 11 points, including three three-pointers. The former Raptor was banged up earlier in the season and the Bucks really missed him. The team is finally starting to settle down and find a bit of a rhythm. Not sure if they can climb back into legitimate playoff contention after digging themselves a major hole, but improving health and a capable scorer like Bayless helps their chances.
