(SportsNetwork.com) - A homestand that began with promise quickly fizzled out for the San Francisco Giants, while the Chicago White Sox have matched their longest losing streak of the season.

The two clubs look to move past a disappointing weekend on Tuesday night when they open a quick two-game series in Chicago.

The Giants swept the New York Mets to begin a 10-game stay, but lost six of the final seven games on the homestand. That included a three-game sweep at the hands of the Colorado Rockies, who rallied after the seventh inning in all three games to post the sweep.

"What could go wrong went wrong late in the ballgame in this series," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

San Francisco did dodge a bullet that could have made things worse as catcher Buster Posey is expected to play despite leaving Sunday's loss in the sixth inning after taking a hard foul ball off his catcher's mask. Posey said after the game he underwent a number of tests and did not suffer a concussion.

For the White Sox, they began last week with two wins over the AL Central- leading Detroit Tigers, but lost the finale of that three-game set before getting outscored 22-6 in dropping three in a row to the Kansas City Royals.

Sunday's 6-3 loss was Chicago's seventh defeat in nine games and came despite the White Sox posting 12 hits.

"We had opportunities," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "We just didn't come through enough with those chances."

In a rematch six years in the making, the White Sox will send John Danks to the hill tonight to counter the Giants' Matt Cain.

These two hurlers squared off in San Francisco back on May 18, 2008 and have not faced their respective opposing clubs since. Neither got a decision, with Danks giving up three runs over six innings and Cain getting tagged for six runs over seven innings while yielding four homers.

The right-handed Cain will make his third start since returning from his second stint on the disabled list this season. He was sharp in his first outing, but then struggled with his control on Wednesday in a loss to the Washington Nationals.

Cain yielded four runs over five innings as he gave up three hits and walked five. The outing dropped the 29-year-old to 1-4 with a 3.84 earned run average on the season.

Danks, meanwhile, has won back-to-back outings following a four-start winless stretch and has been charged with just five runs over his last four starts. Two of those came in Wednesday's triumph over Detroit as he logged seven innings while working around six hits and two walks.

The 29-year-old southpaw is 5-5 with a 4.17 ERA on the year, including a 3-2 mark and 2.96 ERA at home.

The White Sox picked up a three-game road sweep in that 2008 encounter, while the Giants won two of three when they last visited Chicago's South Side.
