PANORAMA, B.C. - Canadian Matt Hallat went out with a bang.

The 30-year-old native of Squamish, B.C, captured a bronze medal Tuesday in the men's standing slalom event at the 2015 IPC alpine world championships. Hallat's timing couldn't have been better as the veteran national team veteran earned his first-ever world championship medal in his final race before retiring.

Russian Alexey Bugaev captured the gold medal with a time of one minute 39.05 second. Compatriot Alexander Alyabyev was second in 1:46.15, followed by Hallat, a leg amputee, in 1:47.86.

"I couldn't have waited any longer," said Hallat who has been on the Canadian Para Alpine team since 2002. "I have been here many, many times.

"It's amazing, I am still shaking. I know what I needed to do and that was the plan in the start gate. This will take a while to sink in."

Edmonton's Krik Schornstein was fifth in 1:51.48.

Toronto's Erin Latimer was sixth in the women's event with a time of 2:13.11.
