BRNO, Czech Republic - Jorge Lorenzo claimed pole position in Saturday's qualifying for the Czech Grand Prix.

The Spaniard secured his second MotoGP pole of the season after setting a track record by covering the 3.358-mile Brno circuit in 1 minute, 54.989 seconds.

"I was very proud of my lap time," Lorenzo said. "I really made one of my best laps ever."

Lorenzo is second in the overall standings with 186 points, just nine points behind his Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi of Italy.

Defending world champion Marc Marquez of Spain, who won the last two races in Indianapolis and at the Sachsenring, finished 0.074 seconds behind in second on his Honda while Rossi was 0.364 back to complete the front row.

Marquez is third overall with 139 points.
