MIAMI — The Miami Marlins have placed left-handed pitcher Wei-Yin Chen on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow strain.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly says the injury "doesn't really sound that serious," but the team wants to be careful.

The move, announced Monday, was retroactive to July 21. Right-hander Jarred Cosart was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans and started Monday's game against Philadelphia.

Chen's injury originated before the All-Star break. He hoped the time off would help him recover, but then he experienced more soreness during a start at Philadelphia last Wednesfday.

Chen is 5-4 with a 4.99 ERA in 19 starts.
