HAMILTON — Jeremiah Masoli completed nine passes for 136 yards and a touchdown to lead the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to a 42-25 win over the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday night in CFL pre-season action.

Chad Owens, an off-season addition for the Tiger-Cats, caught five passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. CJ Gable, Quinton Pointer and Ross Scheuerman all ran in for Hamilton TD's.

Ticats head coach Kent Austin thought there was improvement from his first-team offence after a pre-season loss to Toronto last week.

"I thought the execution was a little bit better. We still made some mistakes and bogged down a couple times," said Austin. "We had the ability, I thought, to stay on the field. Obviously we're not going to execute every single play, we understand that, we're not going to make every throw, not going to block perfectly on every play... we need to have constant improvement."

Brett Maher was 2 of 3 on field goals for Hamilton with his longest coming from 47 yards.

Travis Greene had 13 carries for 96 yards and a touchdown to pace the Redblacks offence. Quarterback Danny O'Brien carried the ball once and ran it in for a TD. He was also 18-of-21 passing for 159 yards and an interception.

Brock Jensen was 13 of 21 for 146 yards and two interceptions for Ottawa.

Christopher Milo converted on all three of his field-goal attempts.

The Tiger-Cats open the regular season on Thursday against the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field. The Redblacks open up their campaign Saturday against the Edmonton Eskimos in a rematch of last year's Grey Cup.

"We've had a good camp, solid camp. I think everyone's been making plays through camp," said Owens. "My focus today was just to come out and have fun and try to win these fans over."
