Corey Perry was named Team Canada's captain on Thursday for the upcoming World Hockey Championship in Russia.

Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly were also named assistant captains for the tournament that begins on Friday.

Perry, who joined the team on Tuesday, did not play in Team Canada's pre-tournament win over the Czech Republic.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist skated on a line with Taylor Hall and Derick Brassard in Thursday's practice.

Duchene was on a line with Connor McDavid and Brad Marchand while O'Reilly centred a line with Brendan Gallagher and Boone Jenner.

Team Canada opens the tournament against the United States on Friday (TSN1/3/4, 9am et/6am pt).
