ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. - The Val-d'Or Foreurs sent a message to the rest of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, advancing to the next round of the playoffs with a convincing Game 6 win on Sunday afternoon.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel scored a hat trick and added an assist as Val-d'Or routed the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 9-2 to capture its first-round, best-of-seven series, 4-2.

Anthony Richard had a pair of goals for the Foreurs, who scored five times in the second period. William Gignac, Shawn Ouellette-St-Amant, Pierre-Maxime Poudrier and Alexis Pepin supplied the rest of the offence with Jeremie Fraser adding four assists.

Julien Nantel, on the power play, and Mathieu Lemay found the back of the net for Rouyn-Noranda.

Etienne Montpetit got the win in goal, turning aside 26 shots. Samuel Harvey started for the Huskies, but was pulled after allowing 29-of-35 shots in 40 minutes. Jeremy Belisle went the rest of the way, making 11 saves.

Both teams scored once on five power-play opportunities.

GATINEAU, Que. — Joey Richard and Valentin Zykov had a goal and assist each as the Olympiques won their first-round playoff series over Blainville-Boisbriand 4-2.

Elie Berube and Alex Breton also chipped in for Gatineau.

Danick Martel answered in the third period for the Armada.

CATARACTES 6 MOOSEHEADS 1

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Gabriel Slight and Giovanni Fiore both struck twice as the Cataractes forced Game 7 in their series with a win over Halifax.

Dylan Labbe and Anthony Beauvillier also scored for Shawinigan to tie the series at three games apiece.

Ryan Falkenham had a power-play goal for the Mooseheads.

Winnipeg Jets prospect Nikolaj Ehlers received a double minor for spearing, an unsportmanlike conduct and game misconduct for abuse of officials at 10:44 of the third period.

Halifax's Brandon Vuic later received a match penalty at 18:45 for attempt to injure.

Game 7 takes place on Tuesday in Shawinigan.
