CHARLOTTETOWN - Rookie Daryl MacCallum has proven himself in net for the Charlottetown Islanders.

MacCallum stopped all 43 shots he faced on Friday night as the Islanders blanked the Sherbrooke Phoenix 4-0 to take a 3-2 lead in their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League first-round playoff series.

MaCallum has stepped up after starter Mason McDonald, a Calgary Flames prospect, sustained a knee injury in Game 3. He leads all goaltenders in the playoffs with a 1.38 goals-against average and .962 save percentage through three games.

Oliver Cooper and Spenser Cobbold scored in the first period for the Islanders. Ross Johnston and Bradley Kennedy chipped in with goals in the third.

Alex Bureau kicked out 36 shots for Sherbrooke.

Charlottetown failed to score on three power plays while the Phoenix, who host Game 6 on Monday, went 0 for 7 with the man advantage.

FOREURS 5 HUSKIES 4 (OT)

VAL-D'OR, Que. — Anthony Beauregard scored his second goal of the game in overtime as the Foreurs took a 3-2 lead over Rouyn-Noranda in their first-round playoff series.

Jeremie Fraser also struck twice for Val-d'Or in the third to force an extra period. Simon Tremblay rounded out the attack with a short-handed goal.

Alexandre Fortin had a pair of goals for the Huskies, who host Game 6 on Sunday. Mathieu Lemay and Francis Perron supplied the rest of the offence.

SYDNEY, N.S. — Kurt Etchegary and Nikolas Brouillard had power-play goals as Quebec took a 3-2 series lead over the Screaming Eagles.

Dmytro Timashov also scored for the Remparts, who are hosting this year's Memorial Cup.

Clark Bishop had the lone goal for Cape Breton in the first period.

Quebec hosts Game 6 on Monday.

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Francois Brassard made 38 saves as Gatineau blanked the Armada to take a 3-2 series lead in their first-round playoff series.

Mickael Beauregard had the game's lone offence with a goal in the second period for the Olympiques.

Samuel Montembeault turned away 18 shots for Blainville-Boisbriand.

Gatineau can clinch the series on Sunday with a Game 6 win at home.

HALIFAX — Timo Meier scored his second of the game at 12:08 into the second overtime period as the Mooseheads took a 3-2 series lead over Shawinigan.

Winnipeg Jets prospect Nikolaj Ehlers and Danny Moynihan each had a goal and two assists for Halifax in regulation.

Dennis Yan had a hat trick for the Cataractes, who host Game 6 on Sunday.
