TROON, Scotland - While they still have some golf left to play to decide the Open Championship, the RBC Canadian Open finalized its field on Friday. Considering it’s sandwiched between two major championships, the quality is strong.

Heading of the list is defending champion and world No. 1 Jason Day along with the second-ranked Dustin Johnson, who won last month’s U.S. Open.

Others include RBC-sponsored players Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Graeme McDowell, Ryan Palmer, Jim Furyk and Ernie Els, all of whom are expected to play as part of their arrangement (Day is also sponsored by RBC).

Other notables who will tee it up are K.J. Choi, Hunter Mahan, Geoff Ogilvy, Kevin Kisner and Stewart Cink.

And a group of past winners is also in the field including Vijay Singh, Sean O’Hair, Chez Reavie, Justin Leonard and Carl Pettersson.

There will be 12 Canadians playing, which is the second-lowest number of home-country entrants in the last 10 years. They’re led by David Hearn, who came close to winning last year, along with Graham DeLaet (who shaved his famous beard this week!), Nick Taylor, Adam Hadwin and Mike Weir.

Due to the Olympics, the PGA Tour altered its schedule with the result being the RBC Canadian Open was slotted between the Open Championship and the PGA Championship.

To make travel easier for those competing at Royal Troon this week, Golf Canada arranged a charter flight to Toronto that will leave shortly after the final putt drops here.
