According to a report by MLB Network Insider Peter Gammons, the Boston Red Sox are willing to pay whatever it takes to land free-agent pitcher David Price.

Gammons quoted an anonymous National League general manager’s speculation that “Boston will go $30-40 million above anyone else,” to get the Price deal done.

Another GM speculated to Gammons that the St. Louis Cardinals could pass on re-signing outfielder Jason Heyward to ink Price and count on the lefty to be the bridge to their next generation of young pitchers.

Gammons also reported that Mark Shapiro is deep into general manager interviews in Toronto. One candidate is Ross Atkins, vice-president of baseball development with the Indians. Josh Byrnes, a longtime associate of Shapiro now serving as senior vice-president of the Dodgers, is also reportedly a candidate.
