Wide receiver Eric Rogers is headed south.

The Calgary Stampeders confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Rogers has been granted his release to sign an NFL contract.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Rogers, who led the CFL in receiving in 2015, has reached an agreement with the San Francisco 49ers.

"Eric has an agreement in place with an NFL club and we are granting him his release in order to allow him to sign a contract immediately rather than waiting until February," said Stampeders general manager John Hufnagel in a release. "We wish Eric the best of luck and thank him for his contributions to the Stampeders."

Schefter reports the deal is the most lucrative deal for a CFLer since Cameron Wake joined the Miami Dolphins in 2009. He reportedly had 16 NFL work outs and 13 total offers.

Rogers had 87 receptions for 1,448 yards and 10 touchdowns. It was Rogers' ssecond year in the league, but the Cal Lutheran product played in only two games his rookie year.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shared further details of Rogers' deal.

Rogers was also named a CFL All-Star in 2015.

"I would like to thank everyone who works for the first-class organization that Calgary is, " said Rogers in a release. "I thank all of my teammates from the past two years and have nothing but great memories of my time with them. I also want to thank the fans for their support and the members of the media."
