Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell says he is being fined by CFL commissioner Jeffrey Orridge for a tweet that he sent out last week about the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Mitchell announced the news on the Hustler and Lawless show on TSN Radio 1290 Winnipeg on Tuesday.

In the tweet last Monday, Mitchell made reference to the reported story that, among other roster violations, Saskatchewan had non-roster players staying in Regina that could be signed at any time - an arrangement that is against league rules.

The 'Riders were fined $60,000 and had their salary cap reduced as punishment by the league last Thursday, with the CFL saying in a statement that Saskatchewan was "in violation of policies which prohibit practicing with ineligible players, players participating in practice who are on the 6-Game Injured List and having free agents practice with players who are under contact."

Speaking on Hustler and Lawless, Mitchell explained why he felt he needed to say something about the situation in Regina.

“I wouldn’t say that I wish that I hadn’t of done it. I felt something needed to be done about it," said Mitchell. "I could have gone about it a different way, but at the moment I thought that was the necessary way, and that’s why I did it, so I’m not going to back away from it. I’ll tell you the reason I did it and that’s why. I thought public pressure would help the most out of anything, and obviously it helped a little bit.

"I spoke with Commissioner Orridge. Yeah, I will be fined on the subject, mainly because of the tweet that actually broke it down that said extra players, extra practices, all that. Whether or not, it’s not a question about being right. Sometimes it’s wrong to be right. It’s a question of the way I went about it and keeping it in-house, talking with my guys , and talking with the CFL if I have a complaint. Just to be scrutinized.”

Stamps head coach Dave Dickenson joined 3 Down Radio on TSN 1040 Vancouver on Tuesday evening to discuss whether he had any issues with Mitchell expressing himself on Twitter.

"Well, I'm totally boring. I mean, for the most part I just kind of entertain myself; I don't have a lot of these social media things,” Dickenson said. “But I do think it's important for the guys to promote our league and have a personality. I don't want a bunch of robots on my team, so I'm fine with it.

"But there's a fine line. You shouldn't be getting your nose in everybody's business. It's fine to take an interest in the league but just be careful what you're saying. Ultimately, you just [have to] understand that we have rules, we [have to] follow them.

“Keep it interesting, but maybe just stay out of the nitty-gritty on some of those things."
