The Toronto Blue Jays are off to a dismal 2-9 start and already sit 5.5 games back first place in the AL East.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, evaluators say the team could consider a rebuild and sell off aging assets if they can't turn their season around.

Olney notes the Blue Jays could part ways with veteran pitchers J.A. Happ, Francisco Liriano and Marco Estrada to begin a rebuild.

Happ, 34, is signed for one more season at $13 million, while Liriano and Estrada are both slated for free agency this winter.

Happ posted a 20-4 record in 32 starts last season with a 3.18 ERA. Liriano was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates last season and is off to a rough start this year with a 9.00 ERA through two starts this season. Estrada, 33, owns an 0-1 record through three starts this season with a 3.50 ERA.

Olney notes the Jays could also part ways with Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki.

Donaldson, 31, is only two years removed from winning the American League MVP, but is eligible to become a free agent after the 2018 season and the Jays must make a decision on his long-term future. The 2016 Silver Slugger is currently on the 10-day disabled list and Olney notes health will be a major factor in the Jays decision, but it will also dictate a potential return in a trade.

Bautista re-signed with the Blue Jays after testing free agency in the winter. He has mutual options for each of the next two seasons and will turn 37 later this year. Olney notes Bautista must improve his numbers from last season in order to allow the Jays to move him. Bautista owns a .150 average to start the season with no home runs and one RBI.

Finally Tulowitzki, who has struggled since joining the Blue Jays in 2015, is owed $58 million from next season through 2020 and Olney reports the Jays would have to retain a significant portion of that salary to move him, or accept a bad contract in return. Tulowitzki owns a .225 average this season with one home run and nine RBI.

Starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez, who posted an AL-best 3.00 ERA last season, was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday.

Happ is slated to start Sunday against the Orioles.
