Ice Chips: Blackhawks' Sanford back on waivers

Waivers

The Chicago Blackhawks placed Zach Sanford on waivers Tuesday after claiming the forward in January from the Arizona Coyotes.

Sanford posted three assists in 15 games with the Blackhawks after being claimed, 

Sanford, 29, appeared in 11 games for Arizona this season, tallying two assists and nine shots on goal in limited ice-time. The American winger has spent the majority of the season with the AHL's Tuscon Roadrunners after signing a one-year, two-way deal with the Coyotes this offseason.

The nine-year NHL veteran was placed on waivers by Arizona this past Friday, and has previously played for the Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues, Ottawa Senators, Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators.

Sanford has played in over 300 NHL games over the course of his career, registering 49 goals and 51 assists during that span.

The San Jose Sharks also placed defenceman Jacob MacDonald on waivers Tuesday. He has six goals and one assist in 22 games this season.

 


Florida Panthers

Defenceman Aaron Ekblad will return for Tuesday's game against the Ottawa Senators

Ekblad sat out Saturday's blowout 9-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning with a lower-body injury.

The 28-year-old has three goals and 14 points in 37 games this season. 



Winnipeg Jets

Laurent Brossoit will start against the Minnesota Wild Tuesday as the Jets look to rebound from Monday's loss to the Calgary Flames.

 


Montreal Canadiens

Forward Cole Caufield did not participate in practice Tuesday as he received a therapy day.

 


Pittsburgh Penguins 

Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic will start against the New York Islanders Tuesday, though head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Tristan Jarry has been cleared to back up.
