Toronto Maple Leafs

Maple Leafs defenceman Mark Giordano will be replaced in the team's lineup Thursday by William Lagesson.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe said the extent of Giordano's hand injury, suffered Tuesday against the Florida Panthers, is still being determined.

The 40-year-old Giordano has one goal and four assists over 19 games this season with the Leafs, his third in Toronto.

Giordano, a native of Toronto, has 156 goals and 417 assists in 1,121 games spent with the Calgary Flames, Seattle Kraken and Maple Leafs over his 18-year career.

Detroit Red Wings

Forward Patrick Kane took the ice with the Red Wings for the first time since signing a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the team on Tuesday.

Kane, 35, was rehabbing from hip resurfacing surgery in June.

Head coach Derek Lalonde said Kane will not play tonight against the New York Rangers but expects him to be ready "sooner rather than later."

"[He] tested out very well through the physical yesterday, so again, it'll probably be a day-to-day type thing. Probably be disappointed if it's a couple week process," Lalonde added.

Kane spent last season with the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers, posting 21 goals and 57 points in 73 games between the two teams.

Selected first overall by Chicago in the 2007 draft, Kane has 451 goals and 1,237 points in 1,180 career games.

Montreal Canadiens

The Canadiens have announced that forward Michael Pezzetta will be a healthy scratch tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Veteran Joel Armia will take his place in the lineup. Pezzetta has one goal and three points in 17 games this season. Armia has played just six games this season, recording one goal.

Head coach Martin St. Louis also confirmed that Cayden Primeau will get the start on Thursday night against the Florida Panthers.

Primeau, 24, has a 2-2-0 record this season with a 3.41 goals-against average and .898 save percentage.

Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres loaned forward Jiri Kulich to the Rochester Americans of the AHL, the team announced on Wednesday.

This move opens up a roster spot for Jordan Greenway, who has missed the last three games for personal reasons.

Sabres coach Don Granato indicated earlier on Wednesday that Greenway was likely to return to the lineup when Buffalo takes on the St. Louis Blues on Thursday evening.

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks recalled defenceman Matt Irwin and forward Linus Karlsson from the AHL Abbotsford Canucks, and sent defenceman Akito Hirose down to Abbotsford in a series of moves on Wednesday, the team announced.

Irwin, 36, played 61 games with the Washington Capitals a season ago, where he finished with two goals and five points. He has spent time with the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres and Capitals in his 11 years in the NHL.

Karlsson logged just under 12 minutes of ice time in his lone appearance with the Canucks earlier this season.

New Jersey Devils

The Devils have recalled forward Samuel Laberge from the AHL's Utica Comets, the team announced. Laberge has not played an NHL game in his career. He has one goal and two assists in eight games in Utica this season. The 26-year-old has registered 22 goals and 54 points in 201 carer NHL games.
