Blue Jays assign Hutchison, option Barger to Minor League Spring Training

The Toronto Blue Jays assigned 11 players, including pitcher Drew Hutchison and infielder Addison Barger, to Minor League Spring Training on Monday. All players remain eligible to play in Grapefruit League games as needed.

Hutchison appeared in three spring games with the Blue Jays, allowing 15 hits and nine runs over 7.0 innings. He recently sustained a minor oblique strain and was listed as day-to-day. The 32-year-old had a 3-9 record with a 4.53 ERA in 28 games (18 starts) with the Detroit Tigers last season. He spent most of the first four seasons of his career with the Jays, posting a 4.92 ERA over 73 starts.

Barger, 23, has impressed during spring training, hitting .294 with one home run and six RBI over 15 games. He slashed .308/.378/.555 with 26 home runs and 91 RBI across the minors last season.
