Ice Chips: Habs' Gallagher, Dach to return to the lineup against Lightning

Montreal Canadiens

Forward Brendan Gallagher confirmed that he will return to the Canadiens' lineup when they face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.

Gallagher hasn't played since early January and has only appeared in 25 games this season.

The 30-year-old winger has four goals and nine points this season

Gallagher will be joined by forward Kirby Dach, who has been sidelined since mid-February.

Dach, 22, has 12 goals and 35 points in 54 games this season

Jake Evans and Jordan Harris, who are both dealing with lower-body injuries as well, were still wearing non-contact jerseys during the Tuesday's practice. 

Evans, 26, has been out the last 27 games with a lower-body injury and has two goals and 11 points in 43 games this season.

Harris, 22, missed the team's last six games with a lower-body injury and has three goals and 15 points in 60 games this season.

Additionally, forward Jesse Ylonen and Chris Wideman did not participate during the Canadiens' morning skate.

Ylonen missed the skate due to a non-COVID related illness while Wideman had a therapy day.

The Canadiens assigned forward Anthony Richard to the AHL's Laval Rocket on Tuesday.

Richard, 26, recorded three goals and five points in 13 games in Montreal this season.

The 5-foot-11 forward also has 24 goals and 55 points in 49 games in the AHL this season.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Defenceman T.J. Brodie participated in the Maple Leafs' optional skate on Tuesday but will not play against the New York Islanders, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Brodie, 32, was considered to be day-to-day after blocking a shot during the Maple Leafs' 5-4 shootout win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday and missed practice on Monday.

The 6-foot-4 defenceman has two goals and 11 points in 47 games this season.

The Maple Leafs assigned forward Alex Steeves and goaltender Joseph Woll to the AHL's Toronto Marlies on Tuesday.

Steeves, 23, only appeared in three games with the Maple Leafs and did not record a point. 

The 6-foot forward has 17 goals and 45 points in 55 games with the Marlies this season.

Woll, 24, appeared in three games with the Leafs and has a 2-1 record with a .938 save percentage and 2.04 goals-against average.

The 6-foot-3 netminder also has a 16-2-0 record in the AHL with a .928 save percentage and 2.37 GAA this season.

Vancouver Canucks

Defenceman Filip Hronek is considered to be day-to-day and there's a good chance he'll be in the lineup on Thursday against the San Jose Sharks, according to head coach Rick Tocchet.

Hronek, 25, was acquired by the Canucks, along with a draft pick from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for two draft picks on March 1.

The 6-foot defenceman last played on Feb. 28 in a 6-1 Red Wings loss to the Ottawa Senators prior to getting traded and has been day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Hronek has nine goals and 38 points in 60 games this season.

Washington Capitals

Defenceman John Carlson is close to returning to the Capitals lineup but will not play against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, according to head coach Peter Laviolette.

Carlson, 33, will miss his 36th game on Tuesday with a head injury after taking a slapshot to the head from Winnipeg Jets defenceman Brenden Dillon on Dec. 23.

The 6-foot-3 defenceman has eight goals and 21 points in 30 games this season.

Additionally, Trevor van Riemsdyk did not participate in the Capitals' morning skate on Tuesday with his wife expecting his child soon, according to Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic.

Boston Bruins

Forward Taylor Hall participated in the Bruins' morning skate in a non-contact jersey, according to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic.

Hall, 31, has been out since Feb. 25 with a lower-body injury and was placed on LTIR prior to the March 3 trade deadline.

The 6-foot-1 winger has 16 goals and 36 points in 58 games this season.

Additionally, defenceman Derek Forbort is not expected to return to the lineup before the end of the regular season, according to head coach Jim Montgomery.

Forbort, 31, last appeared during the Bruins' 3-0 shutout victory over the Winnipeg jets and had an MRI done on an undisclosed injury on Friday, according to play-by-play announcer Judd Sirott.

The 6-foot-4 defenceman has five goals and 12 points in 54 games this season.

The Bruins are projected to use these lines for their game against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, according to Shinzawa:

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings recalled forward Matt Luff from the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins on an emergency basis on Tuesday.

Luff, 25, appeared in seven games with the Red Wings and registered one goal.

The 6-foot-2 forward has eight goals and 25 points in 28 games with the Griffins this season.


Dallas Stars

Forward Tyler Seguin had stitches removed from his leg and may be available to return to the lineup by the end of the week, according to head coach Pete DeBoer.

Seguin missed the team's last five games after his leg was sliced by Buffalo Sabres' forward Jordan Greenway during the Stars' 10-4 victory over the Sabres.

The 31-year-old forward has 17 goals and 42 points in 65 games this season.

Additionally, forward Mason Marchment is hopeful to return to the Stars' lineup before the end of the regular season, according to broadcaster Bruce LeVine.

The 27-year-old injured his knee during the team's 5-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken on March 13 and was given a three-to-four week recovery time.

Marchment has 12 goals and 31 points in 67 games this season.

The Stars recalled goaltender Remi Poirier from the AHL's Texas Stars and assigned goaltender Matt Murray to Texas on Tuesday.

Poirier, 21, has a 5-3-2 record in the AHL this season with a .913 save percentage and 2.48 goals-against average.

Murray, 25, has a 1-1-0 record this season in Dallas with a .825 save percentage and 3.52 GAA.

The 6-foot-1 netminder also has a 14-9-8 record in the AHL this season with a .909 save percentage and 2.36 GAA.


New Jersey Devils

Forward Curtis Lazar will miss some time with a lower-body injury, according to head coach Lindy Ruff.

Lazar, 28, was acquired by the Devils from the Vancouver Canucks at the trade deadline for a draft pick.

The 6-foot forward has three goals and five points in 48 games this season split between the Canucks and Devils.

Buffalo Sabres

Forward Jordan Greenway will not be available on Tuesday against the Nashville Predators, according to head coach Don Granato.

The Sabres announced Greenway would be day-to-day with an upper-body injury on Monday.

Greenway, 26, was acquired from the Minnesota Wild at the trade deadline and has three goals and eight points in 53 games split between the Wild and Sabres.

Additionally, Granato said that goaltender Eric Comrie has been progressing and should be available to play soon.

Comrie, 27, missed the team's last five games with a lower-body injury.

The 6-foot-1 netminder has an 8-9-0 record with a .877 save percentage and 3.95 goals-against average this season.


St. Louis Blues

Forward Jake Neighbours will return to the lineup when the Blues take on the Detroit Red Wings, the team announced on Tuesday.

Neighbours, 20, has been out of the line up since Feb.19 with an upper-body injury.

The 6-foot winger has four goals and eight points in 30 games this season.

Nashville Predators

Defenceman Ryan McDonagh will return to the lineup against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, according to head coach John Hynes.

McDonagh has missed the team's last four games with an upper-body injury and has a goal and 15 points in 57 games this season.

Additionally, star defenceman Roman Josi is considered to be day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

The 32-year-old was injured during the team's 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets after just 10:06 of ice time.

Josi Has 18 goals and 59 points in 67 games this season.


Arizona Coyotes

The Coyotes recalled defenceman Michael Kesselring from the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners on Tuesday.

Kesselring, 23, was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers, along with a draft pick, for forward Nick Bjugstad on March 2 and appeared in four games with the Coyotes without registering a point.

The 6-foot-4 defenceman has 14 goals and 24 points in 52 games in the AHL this season.


Seattle Kraken

Goaltender Joey Daccord was recalled from the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds on an emergency basis, according to team reporter Bob Condor.

Daccord will start in net on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars because Philipp Grubauer is not available for an undisclosed reason, according to head coach Dave Hakstol.

The 26-year-old started one game with the Kraken this year, a 5-4 loss to the Calgary Flames on Nov. 1.

Daccord has a 24-6-6 record in the AHL with a .915 save percentage and 2.43 goals-against average this season.


Anaheim Ducks

Forward Nikita Nesterenko is expected to make his NHL debut on Tuesday against the Calgary Flames.

Nesterenko, 21, was drafted 172nd overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2019 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Ducks at the trade deadline that saw defenceman John Klingberg go to the Wild.

The 6-foot forward played this season with the NCAA's Boston College where he had 12 goals and 34 points in 36 games. In his three-season career with Boston College he has 28 goals and 77 points in 97 career NCAA games.

Forward Evan Rodrigues is in concussion protocol, according to head coach Jared Bednar.

Rodrigues, 29, sustained the injury during the Avalanche's 5-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday after only 11:59 of ice time.

The 5-foot-11 forward has 14 goals and 33 points in 58 games this season.
