Oilers wrap up Canadian teams' day by selecting Park

The Edmonton Oilers select forward Aidan Park with their final pick in the 2025 draft, 223rd overall.

Park recorded 33 goals and 66 points with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL last season.

The 6-foot-1 centre has committed to play for the University of Michigan next season and the Calgary Hitmen own his rights.


Maple Leafs take Hlacar with final pick, Jets take Cloutier

The Maple Leafs took winger Matthew Hlacar of the Kitchener Rangers with the 217th selection in the seventh round.

Hlacar, a 6-foot-3 winger, appeared in 43 games in Kitchener, recording seven goals and eight points.

The Jets select forward Jacob Cloutier of the of the Saginaw Spirit with the 220th pick in the seventh round.

The 5-foot-10 winger recorded 23 goals and 47 points 67 games in his first OHL season last year.


Senators select Trofimov with final selection

The Senators used their final selection in the draft to select goaltender Andrei Trofimov out of Russia with the 213rd overall picks.

Standing at 6-foot-2, Trofimov had a 13-7-2 record with the Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk of the MHL with a 2.10 GAA and .929 save percentage.


Habs take Vig with final selection

The Canadienes took defenceman Maxon Vig from Cedar Rapids of the USHL with  the 209th selection in the draft.

Standing at 6-foot-4, Vig had 10 goals and 32 points in 62 games in the USHL last season.

Vig has committed to play at Bemidji State University next season.


Flames take Leander, Matveiko with final selections

The Calgary Flames took defenceman Jakob Leander  from HV71 Jr. in Sweden with the 208th selection.

The 6-foot-4 right-shot defenceman had a goal and six points in 39 games with HV71's under-20 team last season

Matveiko was selected 211th overall after a deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

The 6-foot-1 winger played for Krasnaya Armiya Moskva in Russia last season, recording 10 goals and 24 points in 42 games in the MHL last season.


Canucks take Lansing with final selection

The Canucks select forward Matthew Lansing from Fargo of the USHL with the 207th overall pick.

Lansing recorded 12 goals and 27 points in 54 games split between Waterloo and Fargo in the USHL last year.

Oilers end Round 6 with a goalie

The Oilers wrapped up the Canadian team's selections in Round 6 by taking goaltender Daniel Salonen from Finland with the 191st selection.

The 6-foot-3 netminder went 23-1-0 with Lukko's under-20 team with a .933 save percentage and 1.55 GAA.


Senators take Idzan, Leafs, Jets, Habs take defencemen

The Senators selected 6-foot forward Bruno Idzan from Lincoln of the USHL with the 181st overall select.

The 6-foot Croatia native had 22 goals and 44 points in 36 games last season.

Toronto selected defenceman Rylan Fellinger from the OHL's Flint Firebirds with the 185th selection and the Jets took blueliner Edison Engle from Dubuque of the USHL with pick 188.

Fellinger, a 6-foot-4 right-shot defenceman, had three goals and seven points in 64 games in Flint last season.

Engle, a 6-foot-2 left-shot defenceman, had two goals and 13 points in 34 games and is planning to play with the OHL's Brantford Bulldogs next season before moving to Ohio State University for the 2026-27 campaign.

The Canadiens then selected Andrew MacNiel from the Kitchener Rangers with the 189th pick.

The 6-foot-3 appeared in 33 games last season, recording three assists.


Canucks select Chiarot, Flames take Lane, Habs grab Handel

The Canucks took winger Gabriel Chiarot fromt he Brampton Steelheads with the 175th pick.

Chiarot, a 5-foot-11 forward had 21 goals and 35 points in 66 games last year.

The Flames followed that with selecting Steelheads forward Aidan Lane and the Canadiens took defenceman Carlos Handel out of the Halifax Mooseheads.

Lane played for St. Andrews College last season, recording 34 goals and 86 points with their under-18 Triple A team.

The 6-foot-2 winger also appeared in 13 games with the Steelheads recording seven goals and 13 points and will play for Harvard next season.

Handel played last season with the Halifax Mooseheads, recording three goals and 26 points.

The 6-foot-1 defenceman appeared in five games at the World Juniors in Ottawa last year with Germany.

Jets select Kingsell

The Winnipeg Jets selected 5-foot-10 winger Viktor Kingsell out of Sweden with the 156th overall pick.

Klingsell, recorded 17 goals and 39 points with Skelleftea AIK's under-20 team last season and was ranked No. 78 on McKenzie's draft list.


Ottawa selects Isayev, Nansi goes to Toronto

The Senators selected 5-foot-9 winger Dmitri Isayev with the 149th overall pick.

Isayev had 22 goals and 45 points in 44 games with Avto Yekaterinburg of the MHL in Russia last season.

The Maple Leafs followed that up by selected Harry Nansi out of the OHL's Owen Sound Attack with the 153rd overall selection.

Nansi, a 6-foot-3 winger, had seven goals and 23 points in 67 games in his second season in the OHL last season.


Canucks, Flames, Habs fifth-round picks

The Canucks select forward Wilson Bjorck with pick No. 143, followed by forward Ethan Wyttenbach going to the Flames at pick No. 144 and goaltender Alexis Cournoyer going to Montreal with pick No. 145.

Bjorck, a 6-foot centre, recorded 28 goals and 67 points in 43 games with Djurgardens' under-20 team in Sweden last season and committed to play for Colorado College next seaosn.

Wyttenbach, a 5-foot-10 winger, recorded 24 goals and 51 points with the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede last season and will play for Quinnipiac University next season.

Cournoyer went 13-5-1 with the QMJHL's Cape Breton Eagles last season with a .942 save percentage and 1.82 GAA.

The 6-foot-4 netminder has committed to play for Cornell University next season.


Leafs grab Belle in Round 5

The Toronto Maple Leafs select 6-foot-4 winger William Belle with the 137th overall selection out of the Under-18 United States National Development Team,

Belle recorded four goals and 16 points in 55 games with the NTDP and is committed to play for the University of Notre Dame next season.


Oilers select Barnett in Round 5

The Oilers trade a fifth-round draft pick in 2026 to the Nashville Predators for the 131st pick in the 2025 draft and select defenceman Asher Barnett from the United States National Development Program.

The 6-foot left-shot defenceman recorded eight goals and 22 points with the NTDP last season and has committed to play with the University of Michigan next season.


Golden Knights, Maple Leafs discussing Marner's rights

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights are discussing a trade to send star winger Mitch Marner's rights to Vegas, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.

Marner, 28, recorded 27 goals and 102 points in 81 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. He added two goals and 13 points in 13 playoff games before his team was eliminated by the Florida Panthers in the second round.

The 6-foot winger is coming off a six-year, $65.41 million contract that carried an annual cap hit of $10.9 million.

Drafted fourth overall by the Maple Leafs in 2015, Marner is fifth all-time in Maple Leafs scoring with 221 goals and 741 points in 657 career games.

Canadiens select Mooney in Round 4, Oilers take Lewandowski

The Montreal Canadiens draft forward John (L.J.) Mooney from the United States U-18 National Development Program with the 113th overall selection.

Mooney had 10 goals and 51 points in 51 games with the NTDP last season and was ranked No. 80 on McKenzie's draft ranking.

The 5-foot-7 winger has committed to play for the University of Minnesota next season.

The Edmonton Oilers select forward David Lewandowski from the WHL's Saskatoon Blades with the 117th overall selection.

Lewandowski recorded 15 goals and 39 points in 52 games in Saskatoon during his rookie season last year and was an honourable mention on McKenzie's draft list.


Senators open Round 4 with goalie

The Ottawa Senators selected goaltender Lucas Beckman out of the QMJHL's Baie-Comeau Drakkar with the first pick in the fourth round.

Beckman was one of the QMJHL's top goalies last season, going 31-18-2 with a 2.65 GAA and .914 save percentage with four shutouts.

The 6-foot-2 netminder also went 5-6 in the playoffs with a 2.57 GAA and .922 save percentage.

Senators trade up to select Vanek

The Ottawa Senators trade pick No. 96 and a seventh-round draft pick in 2027 to the Washington Capitals in exchange for pick No. 93  and select Blake Vanek from Stillwater High School in the United States.

Vanek recorded 22 goals and 53 points in 29 games with Stillwater last season.

The 6-foot-3 winger also appeared in nine games with the USHL's Chicago Steel, recording four goals and five points and is expected to play with the WHL's Wenatchee Wild next season.


Capitals acquire Chisholm

The Washington Capitals acquire defenceman Declan Chisholm and the 180th overall selection in the 2025 NHL Draft from the Minnesota Wild for defenceman Chase Priskie and pick No. 123.

Chisholm, 25, appeared in 66 games with the Wild last season, recording two goals and 12 points.

The 6-foot-1 left-shot defenceman is scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

Priskie, 29, played 61 games with the AHL's Hershey Bears last season, recording 12 goals and 35 points.


Maple Leafs select Hopkins, Jets take Martin

The Toronto Maple Leafs select centre Tyler Hopkins with the 86th overall selection out of the Kingston Frontenacs.

Hopkins, a 6-foot-1 centre, recorded 20 goals and 51 points in 67 games and was ranked No. 52 on McKenzie's draft list.

The Winnipeg Jets draft centre Owen Martin out of the Spokane Chiefs with the 92nd selection.

Martin, a 6-foot forward, had 13 goals and 34 points in 39 games with Spokane.


Flurry of Canadian draft picks 

The Calgary Flames select defenceman Mace'o Phillips from the USA's Under-18 National Development Program with the 80th overall pick.

Philips recorded two goals and six points in 60 games with the NTDP.

The 6-foot-6 left-shot defenceman also had two goals and three points in the USHL and has committed to play at the University of Minnesota next season.

Phillips was ranked 74th on McKenzie's draft rankings.

The Montreal Canadians proceeded to select defenceman Bryce Pickford from the WHL Champion Medicine Hat Tigers and goaltender Arseni Radkov out of Russia with the 81st and 82nd selections.

Pickford recorded 20 goals and 47 points in 48 games with the Tigers and added 13 goals and 24 points in 18 playoff games.

Radkov went 4-8-3 in 19 games with Tyumenski Legion last season with a .918 save percentage a 3.18 GAA

The 6-foot-4 netminder from Belarus is committed to play at UMass next season.

The Edmonton Oilers followed Montreal, taking forward Tommy Lafreniere from the Kamloops Blazers with the 83rd pick.

The 5-foot-11 winger recorded 24 goals and 56 points in 68 games last season and was an honourable mention on McKenzie's draft rankings


Blues extend Hofer

The St. Louis Blues extend goaltender Joel Hofer to a two-year extension worth $6.4 million with an annual cap hit of 3.4 million on Saturday.

Hofer, 24, had a 16-8-3 record last season with a 2.64 goals-against average and .904 save percentage with the St. Louis Blues while splitting time in net with Jordan Binnington.

The 6-foot-5 netminder is coming off of a two-year $1.55 million contract that carried an annual cap hit of $775,000. He was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

Drafted 107th overall by the Blues in 2018, Hofer has a 35-22-5 record with a 2.71 GAA and .908 save percentage.

The Winnipeg native represented Canada twice at the World Championship, taking home a gold medal in 2023.


Canadiens trade up to take Paupanekis

The Montreal Canadiens trade up with the Boston Bruins to select centre Hayden Paupanekis from the WHL's Kelowna Rockets with the 69th overall pick.

Montreal sents the 79th and 108th pick back to Boston.

Paupanekis had 22 goals and 43 points in 71 games split between the Spokane Chiefs and Rockets last season.

The 6-foot-4 centre was ranked No. 72 on McKenzie's draft rankings.


Maple Leafs select Luc Koblar, Canucks take Dervin

The Toronto Maple Leafs select centre Tinus Luc Koblar out of Sweden with the 64th overall pick.

The 6-foot-3 forward from Norway recorded eight goals and 21 points in 43 games with Leksands under-20 team and added four goals and seven playoff games.

Vancouver selects centre Kieren Dervin out of St. Andrews College with the first pick in the third round.

Dervin recorded 33 goals and 79 points in 50 games with St. Andrew's and also appeared in 10 games with the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs, recording a goal and three points.

The 6-foot-1 centre added a goal and three points in 11 playoff games with the Frontenacs and has committed to Penn State University next season.

Ivankovic goes to Nashville

The Nashville Predators select goaltender Jack Ivankovic from the Brampton Steelheads with the 58th overall pick.

Ivankovic went 25-12-5 with the Steelheads last season in the Ontario Hockey League with a .903 save percentage and 3.05 goals-against average. He also went 1-3 in the playoffs before the Steelheads were eliminated by the Oshawa Generals in the first round.

The 5-foot-11 netminder is well decorated on the international stage for Canada, with gold medal wins at the 2023 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, 2024 and 2025 Under-18 World Championships, and 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Ivankovic starred at the 2025 U-18 World Championship, going 6-0 with a tournament-best 1.05 GAA and .961 save percentage, and was named the tournament's top goaltender.


Flames grab Stockselus

The Calgary Flames select Theo Stockselius out of Sweden with the 54th overall pick.

Stockselius recorded 22 goals and 51 points in 40 games with Djurgardens under-20 team last season.

He was ranked No. 63 on Bob McKenzie's final draft list.


Canucks draft Medvedev

The Vancouver Canucks drafted goaltender Alexei Medvedev from the London Knights with the 47th overall pick.

Medvedev went 22-8-2 with a .912 save percentage and 2.79 goals-against average while backing up starting netminder Austin Elliott as the team won the J. Ross Robertson Cup and Memorial Cup last season.

He was ranked No. 59 on McKenzie's final draft list.


Red Wings acquire Gibson from Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks have traded goaltender John Gibson to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for goaltender Petr Mrazek and two draft picks, reports TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun.

There will be no salary retained in the deal. 

Anaheim will receive a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-rounder in 2026 as part of the deal.

Gibson, 31, is entering the seventh season of an eight-year, $51.2 million deal with an annual cap hit of $6.4 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

The 6-foot-2 netminder had a 11-11-2 record in Anaheim last season with a 2.77 goals-against average and .912 save percentage. He missed the first 13 games of the season after undergoing an emergency appendectomy during training camp.

Gibson and goaltender Frederik Andersen shared the William M. Jennings Trophy in 2016 after the Ducks’ tandem allowed only 192 goals for the season.

Drafted 39th overall by the Ducks in 2011, Gibson has a career 204-217-63 record with a .910 save percentage and 2.89 GAA.

The Pittsburgh native represented the United States at the 2013 World Championship in Sweden and Finland, going 3-1 with a .951 save percentage and 1.56 GAA to help take home a bronze medal.

He also represented Team North American at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and helped the team to a fifth-place finish.

Mrazek, 33, was acquired by the Red Wings, along with forward Craig Smith, from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Joe Veleno before the trade deadline.

He had a 12-21-2 record with an .891 save percentage and 3.35 goals-against average split between the Blackhawks and Red Wings last season.

The 6-foot-2 netminder is entering the final season of a two-year, $8.5 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $4.25 million. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Drafted 141st overall in 2010 by the Red Wings, Mrazek has a career 180-176-40 record with a .906 save percentage and 2.85 GAA split between the Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Blackhawks.

The Ostrava, Czechia native represented his country three times at the World Championship, taking home a gold medal in 2024 and a bronze in 2012. He also represented Czechia at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in a sixth-place finish.


Pittsburgh acquires Clifton from Sabres

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Connor Clifton and the 39th overall selection from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defencemen Conor Timmins and Isaac Belliveau.

Clifton, 30, had a goal and 16 points in 73 games with the Sabres last year.

He is entering the final season of a three-year $10 million deal with an annual cap hit of $3.33

Timmins had three goals and 15 points in 68 games with the Penguins last season and is on the final season of a two-year $2.2 million deal.

Beliveau, 22, was drafted 154th overall by the Penguins in the 2021 draft.


Senators acquire Spence from Kings

The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenceman Jordan Spence from the Los Angeles Kings, according to TSN Hockey Insider, Pierre LeBrun.

LeBrun reports that a third and sixth round selection will be going back to Los Angeles in return.

Spence recorded four goals and 28 points in 79 games with the Kings last season.


Canadiens draft Zharovsky in Round 2.

The Montreal Canadiens select winger Alexander Zharovsky out of Russia 33rd overall in the second round.

Montreal traded up to grab the winger, who had 24 goals and 50 points in 45 games with Tolpar Ufa of the MHL.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie ranked Zharovsky 35th in his draft rankings.


Canadian teams get set for Day 2 of NHL Draft

The second day of the NHL Draft is underway with Canadian teams holding five picks in the second round.

The Montreal Canadiens are scheduled to make five selections in the second and third round while the Toronto Maple Leafs will get their first chance at adding to their organization at the end of the second round.

Edmonton makes their first selection in the draft with the 19th pick in the third round and Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Ottawa will have opportunities to add to their prospect pools as well.

Vancouver was the first Canadian team at the podium during Friday's first round, selecting centre Braden Cootes from the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds 15th overall.

Ottawa selected defenceman Logan Hensler out of the University of Wisconsin with the 23rd overall selection while the Winnipeg Jets took defenceman Sascha Boumedienne out of Boston University at pick No. 28.

The Calgary Flames had two selections in the first round, picking centre Cole Reschny from the WHL's Victoria Royals 18th overall and centre Cullen Potter with the 32nd overall selection.
