Nurse says PWHL Barbie can inspire next generation of female athletes

Sarah Nurse will start her first season with the still-unnamed Vancouver franchise in the Professional Women’s Hockey League this fall — but she’s already made her mark off the ice with a Barbie doll in her likeness. Nurse says it's a “big privilege" to show the younger generation that women can be professional hockey players.

The New York Sirens and forward Sarah Fillier agree to a two-year contract extension after finishing tied for the league lead in points last season. Hailey Salvian of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that the deal will make her the highest paid player in the PWHL.

The Boston Fleet have hired Kris Sparre as the second head coach in the PWHL franchise’s history. Sparre, a 38-year-old veteran assistant with no experience in the women's game, replaces Courtney Kessel, who had a 27-19-8 record and a Walter Cup Finals appearance before leaving to take over at Princeton.
