The San Jose Sharks have signed defenceman Mario Ferraro to a four-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday. The terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Ferraro, 23, scored two goals and registered 14 points in 63 games for the Sharks last season. He led the team in blocked shots with 151.

"Mario has shown that he is a dynamic and reliable defenseman for our club, skating top-level minutes against the best competition every night and delivering solid results," said Sharks general manager Mike Grier.

Originally drafted by San Jose in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, he made his NHL debut in the 2019-20 season, scoring two goals and totaling 11 points in 61 games.

The Toronto native was a restricted free agent. In 180 career NHL games, he has five goals and 42 points.
