WASHINGTON (AP) — Sunusi Ibrahim and Ariel Lassiter scored two minutes apart late in the second half to help CF Montreal tie D.C. United 2-2 on Wednesday night.

Ibrahim kicked off the comeback with his first MLS goal this season in the 80th minute from an Lassiter cross. The two players then switched roles as Ibrahim turned provider on a Lassiter equalizer two minutes later.

"We just needed one goal to get back in the game," Lassiter said. "The players’ mentality was excellent. We continued to fight. 2-0 is a very dangerous lead and we showed that tonight."

Ibrahim, who came on in the 61st minute, became just the second player in club history to record a goal and an assist off the bench in the same game.

D.C. United opened the scoring just before halftime when Donovan Pines headed in a cross from Mateusz Klich for his second goal of the season.

Theodore Ku-Dipietro sent home a deflected ball in front of the net to make it 2-0 in the 59th.

"We were tired at times," Montreal coach Hernán Losada said. "It is an important point earned, because we didn't concede the three points to a direct conference rival.

"Before the game, we noticed that D.C. played with a very high defensive line. We didn't exploit this aspect in the first half, but with the changes, we were able to play with more depth. We scored some great goals in transition. I even felt we could have won the game. It is never easy when you're trailing by two goals on the road.”

The two teams meet again July 26 at Stade Saputo in the group phase of the Leagues Cup.

Montreal (6-8-1), which is 1-7-1 on the road this season after getting outscored 21-5, travels to play the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

D.C. United (5-6-5) hits the road to play Inter Miami on Saturday.
