MILAN - AC Milan is on the verge of completing a loan deal for Roma and Italy forward Mattia Destro.

Destro was travelling to Milan on Thursday after agreeing terms with the club, which had already reached a deal with Roma.

The 23-year-old forward thanked Roma on social media, saying "I was a kid and you made me grow up," adding "now to Milanello for a new challenge, convinced and determined."

Destro was one of the best strikers last campaign with a goal every 95.2 minutes on average. However, he has struggled for playing time this season and has started just eight matches, scoring five goals. He also made eight substitute appearances.

Milan has the right to buy Destro at the end of the season for a reported 16 million euros ($18 million).
