LACHTAL, Austria - Austrian snowboarder Claudia Riegler won the parallel giant slalom world championship for her first major title at age 41, while Andrey Sobolev of Russia took the men's gold on Friday.

Riegler, who won her last of four World Cups 13 years ago, earned silver and bronze at the worlds four years ago.

"It's incredible that I have completed my set of medals now," said Riegler, who immediately backtracked from retirement plans. "I will go on. It wouldn't match my feelings right now if I end my career."

Riegler beat Alena Zavarzina of Russia in a repeat of the final from the 2011 worlds.

Olympic silver medallist Tomoka Takeuchi of Japan defeated Julie Zogg of Switzerland for the bronze.

Sobolev, who is yet to win a World Cup, won the men's final against Zan Kosir of Slovenia, a day after winning silver in the parallel slalom.

Two-time defending champion Benjamin Karl of Austria earned bronze after defeating Valery Kolegov of Russia and became the first male snowboarder to win seven medals at major championships.

The final medal event of the snowboard worlds is the big air on Saturday.
