A day after declining to make a contract offer to Justin Smoak, the Toronto Blue Jays signed the first baseman to a one-year contract worth $1 million on Wednesday.

The Blue Jays claimed Smoak off waivers in late October, but declined his $3.65 million option. The 27-year-old hit .208 with seven homers and 30 runs batted in over 80 games with the Seattle Mariners last season.

Toronto also signed 2014 International League All-Star outfielder Ezequiel Carrera to a minor league contract. The 27-year-old hit .307 with six home runs and 41 RBIs in 97 games in the International League last season.
