TORONTO - Mike Cornell scored on the power play 1:21 into overtime as the St. John's IceCaps edged the Toronto Marlies 6-5 on Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Eric O'Dell completed his hat trick with 31 second left to play in the third period to force the extra period for St. John's (11-12-6). Carl Klingberg and captain Jason Jaffray also scored for the IceCaps, while Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves for the win.

Connor Brown had a pair of goals for Toronto (9-13-3), while Sam Carrick scored and added two assists. Matt Frattin and Ryan Rupert chipped in as well.

Christopher Gibson stopped 28 shots for the Marlies.

The IceCaps scored on one of their three power plays, while Toronto went 2 for 3 with the man advantage.
