Pavel Datsyuk insists his focus is on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, not his plan for afterwards.

The Red Wings star told the Detorit Free Press in an interview published Sunday he planned to return to Russia after the playoffs and retire from the NHL. However, Datsyuk sounded less sure of his plans on Monday.

"It's hard to make a 100-per cent decision now. Now it's just more focus on the playoffs," Datsyuk said according to NHL.com.

Datsyuk added how the Red Wings perform in the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning and beyond could affect his choice.

"[It will] probably have a chance," the 37-year-old said. "You never know what happens. It's hard to make a decision on what happens tomorrow, today. But everything is possible. It's not final decision 100 per cent."

On Sunday, Datsyuk’s agent, Dan Millstein, confirmed the veteran’s plans to return to Russia to reunite with his teenage daughter and play in the KHL.

"It's not over until it's over, but it is Pavel's desire to go back to Russia," Milstein said via the Canadian Press.

Datsyuk is under contract through next season and will count $7.5 million against the Red Wings’ salary cap whether or not he is with the team.

"I feel very bad about it," Datsyuk told the Free Press.

On Monday, he insisted his upcoming decision will not be a distraction for the team.

"I just take responsibility for this one,” Datsyuk told the league’s website. “I don't think it will be a distraction. With us together, we will make a good run."

The Red Wings open their playoffs on Wednesday night in Tampa Bay.
