TORONTO - The Albany Devils have taken Game 1 and home-ice advantage from the Toronto Marlies.

Matt Lorito's goal at 10:41 of the first period stood up as the winner as Albany beat Toronto 2-1 on Wednesday to open up their second-round series.

Toronto hosts Game 2 on Friday before the series shifts to Albany for Games 3, 4 and 5. The best-of-seven set is a 2-3-2 format, leaving the Devils in a great situation.

The Marlies were forced to play without forwards William Nylander and Nikita Soshnikov and defenceman Andrew Campbell because of undisclosed injuries and may have to add forward Tobias Lindberg to the list of banged-up players. Lindberg seemed to injure his shoulder early in the third period when he went to lay a check. He left for the dressing room on the play and did not return.

Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello and coach Mike Babcock were in attendance to watch Toronto's top prospects.

All the scoring came in a span of 2:10 in the first period. Brian O'Neill put Albany on the board first at 8:31 with a power-play goal. Connor Carrick responded for the Marlies at 9:40.

Carrick has four goals and eight points in four games to lead all AHL skaters in playoff scoring.

Scott Wedgewood stopped 32-of-33 shots for the win as Garret Sparks made 27 saves in defeat.

The Devils went 1 for 4 on the power play while Toronto failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.
