Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry suffered a lower-body injury in the first period of Friday night's game against the Minnesota Wild and did not return.

Initially, the Ducks official Twitter account stated Perry's injury "was not believed to be serious" and that he would travel with the team to Winnipeg for Sunday's contest against the Jets.

However, the Ducks then tweeted the following, retracting the earlier update.

"Contrary to our earlier tweet, there is no update on the status of Corey Perry."

Perry was injured after taking a low hit from the Wild's Keith Ballard. He was unable to put weight on his left leg after Ballard dipped his shoulder and hit Perry low along the boards. Perry, Anaheim's leading goal scorer, flipped in the air before landing hard on the ice.

No penalty was called on the hit, but minutes later, Anaheim centre Nate Thompson fought Ballard.

The 29-year-old Perry has scored 14 goals and 22 points in 22 games with the Ducks this season.
