ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Keaton Ellerby had the winner in the third period as the St. John's IceCaps edged the Hamilton Bulldgos 3-2 on Thursday in American Hockey League action.

Patrice Cormier and Ryan Olsen built a 2-0 lead for St. John's (4-8-4) by the 10:26 mark of the first period. Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves to earn the win in net for the IceCaps, the minor league club of the Winnipeg Jets.

Magnus Nygren and Gabriel Dumont replied for Hamilton (4-7-2), the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens. Joey MacDonald stopped 25 shots in 58:40 of work.

St. John's went 1 for 3 on the power play, while the Bulldogs could not score on their four man advantages.

Hamilton has lost three straight.
