Three former Toronto Argonauts are looking to increase football development in the GTA.

Anthony Cannon is the founder of the International Development Fast Football League (IDFFL). Cannon describes the IDFFL as a seven-on-seven developmental football league that bridges the gap between high school football and those that are just starting out in the sport.

It was created after Canon saw that there was a need for a league that allows kids to learn the fundamentals and develop their game.

“Kids were playing summer football then going right to high school football right after that and then from there they would go to winter camps, but there was never any developmental period. We decided to develop something, a platform where these kids could take their pads off and still get quality reps in.”

Cannon is working alongside CFL Hall-of-Famer Damon Allen and until recently, Jordan Younger, to help coach and develop kids in the league.

One of the highlights of the IDFFL is that it takes away hitting and allows kids to focus on techniques and skills which are a relatively new way of training and is something that Allen is keen on.

“Well it’s the new wave of development and it’s ever changing. When you look at the game of football today when they're making such an importance of concussions and those things we have to make things safer,” Allen said.

“Now, these kids can actually develop and learn without having contact. So now you have a sense of flag football and seven on seven which has always been a part of the game in the professional and college"

All three former Argos have played against and with some of the best talents that the CFL has and some Hall-of-Famers. It’s the experience that Allen, Younger and Cannon all have playing that they believe will be beneficial to kids in their development league.
