Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters will be Canada's bench boss at the world championship. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports the announcement could be made by Hockey Canada as soon as Tuesday.

A native of Three Hills, Alberta, Peters is in his second season as the head coach of the Hurricanes after three seasons as an assistant with the Detroit Red Wings. Peters, 51, also has extensive Canadian Hockey League and American Hockey League coaching experience.

In November, Peters was announced as an assistant for Canada's entry in the World Cup of Hockey next fall under Mike Babcock, with whom he coached under in Detroit.

The 2016 IIHF World Hockey Championships kicks off on April 6 in Moscow.
