ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. - The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are the new Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champions.

Martins Dzierkals scored twice, including the eventual winner, as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies routed the Shawinigan Cataractes 7-2 on Thursday to win the QMJHL's President's Cup in five games.

Rouyn-Noranda advances to the Memorial Cup to play for Canada's national major junior championship.

The tournament begins on May 20 in Red Deer, Alta. The Huskies will have their first game on May 21 against the Western Hockey League champions.

Anthony-John Greer had a power-play goal and two assists for the Huskies, while Timo Meier, Philippe Myers, Alexandre Fortin and Mathieu Boucher also scored. Chase Marchand made 15 saves for the win.

Charles Taillon and Dennis Yan replied for Shawinigan. Philippe Cadorette stopped 31 shots for the Cataractes.

Rouyn-Noranda went 2 for 6 on the power play and Shawinigan could not score on its three man advantages.

It's the Huskies' first QMJHL title. They lost to the Gatineau Olympiques in five games in 2008.
