PORTLAND, Ore. - Jack Jewsbury scored in second-half stoppage time to give the Portland Timbers a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer on Sunday.

San Jose was unable to clear a free kick in its area, allowing Jewsbury to run in and make a jumping shot over Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham for his second goal of the season.

Portland has now won six of its last seven MLS matches to move level with Los Angeles in third place in the Western Conference.

San Jose lost for the first time in three games and remained in seventh place in the West.
