The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenceman Connor Carrick to a two-year contract and placed forward Peter Holland on waivers Friday.

The 22-year-old scored two goals and collected two assists in 16 games with the Maple Leafs last season after being acquired in a trade with the Washington Capitals. In 53 career NHL games, the Orland Park, Illinois native has registered 10 points (three goals, seven assists) and 38 penalty minutes.

Carrick has also recorded 75 points (19 goals, 56 assists) and 199 penalty minutes in 138 regular season AHL games. The two-time AHL All-Star led all AHL players with 18 points during the 2016 Calder Cup playoffs.

Carrick was originally selected by Washington in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Holland is a restricted free agent who is scheduled to have an arbitration hearing Monday. He made $775,000 each of the past two years.

The 25-year-old centre played 65 games with the Leafs last year, recording nine goals and 27 points.

Holland was acquired by the Leafs from the Anaheim Ducks during the 2013-14 season.
