The Edmonton Eskimos have reached an agreement with linebacker Dexter McCoil, allowing him to seek an NFL job this offseason.
The Eskimos announced they have reached an agreement with McCoil, the CFL, and the CFLPA which allows McCoil to pursue an NFL job until May 1, 2016. But if McCoil cannot secure an NFL contract, he will return to play for the Eskimos for 2016 and 2017.
McCoil still had a year left on his rookie contract but had earlier reached out to the CFLPA to dispute the final year of his contract, according to a report from the Edmonton Sun.
McCoil won the Most Outstanding Rookie award last year and finished with 76 tackles, two sacks, and three interceptions this year.
