The MLB free agency period is underway. Teams and players alike are looking to make big splashes during the off-season.

Eye on Marcus?

The Colorado Rockies have their eye on Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports the Rockies offered centre fielder Charlie Blackmon, but the Jays were unwilling to make a straight up trade.

Blackmon, 30, posted a career-high .324 batting average last season with 29 home runs and 82 RBI in 143 games. He was awarded the NL centre field Silver Slugger Award.

Stroman, 25, went 9-10 this season with the Blue Jays with a 4.37 ERA in 32 games.

Wait and See

Free agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion reportedly turned down a four-year, $80 million contract offer from the Toronto Blue Jays before entering free agency. But so far, Encarnacion hasn't found a deal he's willing to sign. Yahoo Sports' MLB Columnist Jeff Passan reports the market is plummeting for the 33-year-old.

Passan added that at least one GM thinks a team should jump on Encarnacion, because the Dominican Republic native would present a great value at these prices.

Encarnacion finished last year with a career-high 127 RBIs and 42 home runs, which matched his previous career high.

$100 million man?

As mentioned in the previous blurb, free agent closer Aroldis Chapman is about to get paid.

USA Today MLB Columnist Bob Nightengale speculates Chapman could get a deal that reaches $100 million in total value, because he already has a $92 million offer on the table.

The New York Yankees have been in hot pursuit of Chapman this off-season, with MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman reporting the Yankees are determined to get him. Heyman added that while there other teams in on Chapman, one of them - the Miami Marlins - aren't believed to be the $92 million team.

Chapman split last year between the Yankees and the World Series-winning Chicago Cubs, accumulating 36 saves, a 1.55 ERA, and 90 strikeouts in just 58 innings.

On the block

Jose Quintana's time with the Chicago White Sox appears to be up; where he ends up is the question.

Nightengale reports the White Sox are involved in trade discussions revolving around Quintana with several teams, naming the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros specifically.

Heyman reports that the Braves are also in the mix for Quintana, adding the price on Chris Sale was too steep, but they could work a deal out for Quintana.

Players available

The Detroit Tigers look to be interested in moving one or more of their veteran players. Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal breaks down the scenarios that could see the Tigers trade one or more of JD Martinez, Ian Kinsler, and Anibal Sanchez.

Rosenthal reports the Tigers want to get younger by trading Martinez or Kinsler, but with plenty of free agent options still avaiable no teams are biting yet. A more likely move would appear to involve Sanchez.

Outfield options

The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly one of two suitors along with the Blue Jays vying for free agent outfielder Dexter Fowler. But that's not the team's only plan to bolster their outfield.

According to a report from Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals are believed to be one of the teams who have inquired about Chicago White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton.

While Eaton would cost the Cards in a trade, he's younger than Fowler and has five years remaining on his contract.

Goold also reports the Cardinals have looked into Kansas City Royals' outfielder Lorenzo Cain, and mentioned a Fox Sports report that the team has interest in Jarrod Dyson as well.

Second-tier market

Once Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen have signed their free agent contracts, the market for Dave Robertson is expected to heat up.

Heyman reports Robertson has drawn interest from teams but the White Sox will likely wait until the top free agent closers have signed before engaging in any deals.

One team that could have interest in the White Sox closer is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who figure to lose Jansen as a free agent.
