The New York Yankees received some bad news regarding their young shortstop Didi Gregorius.

According to ESPN senior writer Andrew Marchand, New York Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman says Gregorius will be out six weeks due to a shoulder injury sustained in the World Baseball Classic.

It was previously reported by Marchand that manager Joe Giradi said that Gregorius's injury would prevent him from any baseball activities for two weeks and then he would begin a throwing program.

Giradi has yet to announce who would replace Gregorius at shortstop, but infielder Ronald Torreyes spent time at shortstop for the Bronx Bombers last season and is a likely option.

The 26-year-old Gregorius had a breakout year for the Yankees in 2016, batting .276/.304/.447 with 20 homeruns and 70 RBI in 153 games.
