MONTREAL - Eleider Alvarez will face Isaac Chilemba in an elimination bout to become the top light heavyweight contender in the World Boxing Council, promoter Yvon Michel announced Thursday.

Alvarez (18-0), a Colombian living in Montreal, is ranked second by the WBC while Chilemba (24-2-2), of Malawi, is the top contender. The winner becomes mandatory challenger to champion Adonis Stevenson of Montreal.

The bout will be held in November in either Montreal or Quebec City, with the exact date and venue to be announced later.

Michel and Chilemba's promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events completed the deal this week.

"Alvarez and Chilemba are both at the elite level of the light heavyweight division and that will bring a spectacular and intense fight that will determinate the rest of their respective careers," Michel said in a statement.

Duva added: "Isaac and Main Events are very much looking forward to the fight and very happy to have come to an agreement with our friends at GYM."

Alvarez, who holds a hazy title called the WBC silver belt, is coming off a victory over previously undefeated Isidro Prieto in August at the Bell Centre.

In the same venue in March, Chilemba won the North American title with a unanimous decision over Vasily Lepikhin on the undercard of a title bout between Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal of Laval, Que.

Michel hopes to put Artur Beterbiev, a Russian based in Montreal, on the Alvarez-Chilemba card in an International Boxing Federation elimination fight.
