Roll Tide:  Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Alabama Crimson Tide to a 45-40 win over the Clemson Tigers in the NCAA championship game last night. The title was the fifth for head coach Nick Saban, putting him one behind Bear Bryant for the most all time.

Streak Buster:  Daniel Sedin scored in overtime after a Jaromir Jagr penalty and the Vancouver Canucks ended the Florida Panthers' 12-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory. A melee at the players' benches right after the winning goal drew both teams into throwing punches. In Calgary, five different Sharks scored to send San Jose past the Flames 5-4.

Gone For Three:  Edmonton Oilers forward Matt Hendricks was suspended three games for boarding Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad in a game on Sunday night. Florida says Ekblad is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Paying The Price:  The NFL suspended Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict without pay for the first three games of the 2016 regular season yesterday, in part because of his hit on Antonio Brown late in Saturday’s AFC Wild Card Game. The league also said that it was continuing to review the actions of other Cincinnati and Pittsburgh players and coaches for possible discipline.
