Out of the Blues

Kevin Shattenkirk appears to be on his way out of St. Louis.

TSN Hockey Insider reports it is unlikely the Blues reach a contract extension with the 27-year-old and therefore the team will now look to trade him.

The 27-year-old completed the third year of a four-year, $17 million deal this season. He scored 14 goals and added 30 assists in 72 regular season games. He scored two goals and had 11 points in 20 playoff games.

Dreger reports the Boston Bruins are atop of the list of those interested in a team, but says interest is high around the league.

Blueline for Boston?

While the Bruins are interested in Shattenkirk, he appears to be just one name on their list as they look to add a top-four defenceman.

Joe Haggerty of CSN New England believes the Bruins could become desperate enough to sign a restricted free agent defenceman to an offer sheet on July 1.

The Bruins will have plenty of options in that category, as Haggerty notes, including Jacob Trouba (Jets), Hampus Lindholm (Ducks), Seth Jones (Blue Jackets) and Matthew Dumba (Wild).

Haggerty writes the Bruins don’t have the ammunition to keep with the Edmonton Oilers or Colorado Avalanche on the trade market, so waiting until July 1 may be their best course of action.

Nothing Yet

Dreger notes that the Columbus Blue Jackets continue to listen to offers for the No. 3 overall pick, but would like to attach to a contract, such as that of Scott Hartnell, in a deal to free up cap space.

The Blue Jackets have the third highest cap number for next season and are searching to find space to extend Jones, who will become a restricted free-agent on July 1 and could become the target of an offer sheet.

The Blue Jackets, however, will keep the pick if they cannot receive full value in return.

No Need for Change?

The San Jose Sharks could be headed for a quiet offseason after their first ever trip to the Stanley Cup Final.

Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area notes that almost every key player on the Sharks is under contract for season, or is an RFA. Therefore, the club might only be searching to replace depth parts, such as backup goalie James Reimer and defenceman Roman Polak, both acquired mid-season from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Sharks will, however, look to complete a contract with restricted free agent Tomas Hertl this offseason and, as Kurz notes, an extension for Norris Trophy finalist Brent Burns could also be on the agenda.
