KINGSTON, Ont. - There will be a new Memorial Cup champion this spring.

Spencer Watson had a goal and four assists and Jeremy Helvig made 20 saves as the Kingston Frontenacs shut out the Oshawa Generals 6-0 on Friday night to win their first round Ontario Hockey League playoff series 4-1.

Oshawa was the defending Canadian Hockey League champions after beating the Western Hockey League's Kelowna Rockets in 2015.

Warren Foegele scored twice with Ryan Verbeek, Stephen Desrocher and Lawson Crouse also chipping in for the Frontenacs. Michael Dal Colle added four assists.

Jeremy Brodeur took the loss after turning aside 18-of-22 shots in 36:49. Justin Nichols came on in relief and stopped 11 shots.

Kingston went 2 for 6 on the power play while the Generals were scoreless on four chances with the man advantage.

ICEDOGS 5 67'S 2

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Josh Ho-Sang had a goal and two assists to lead the IceDogs past Ottawa and win their OHL quarter-final series 4-1.

Ryan Mantha, Kyle Langdon, Pavel Jenys and Brendan Perlini rounded out the attack for Niagara.

Austen Keating and Evan De Haan found the back of the net for the 67's.

BATTALION 2 PETES 1 (OT)

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Mike Amadio scored his fourth goal of the playoffs at 11:08 of overtime as the Battalion edged Peterborough to take a 3-2 series advantage.

Brett McKenzie opened the scoring on the power play to give North Bay a 1-0 lead.

Steven Lorentz evened the game at 1-1 in the second period for the Petes.

ATTACK 4 KNIGHTS 3 (OT)

LONDON, Ont. — Petrus Palmu found the back of the net at 3:36 of overtime as Owen Sound edged the Knights to force a Game 6 in its OHL quarter-final series.

Jonah Gadjovich, Santino Centorame and Josh Sterk all had power-play goals in regulation for the Attack.

Aaron Berisha forced extra time with a goal on the man advantage at 17:02 of the third period for London, which still leads the series 3-2. Cliff Pu and Christian Dvorak had the others.

RANGERS 5 SPITFIRES 2

KITCHENER, Ont. — Jeremy Bracco and Ryan MacInnis had a goal and three assists each to lead the Rangers into the next round of the playoffs with a victory over Windsor.

Adam Mascherin scored once and added two assists with Brandon Robinson and Connor Hall rounding out the attack for Kitchener, which took the series 4-1.

Gabriel Vilardi and Brendan Lemieux had goals for the Spitfires.
