After a flurry of offseason moves, the New Orleans Saints have faced speculation that star quarterback Drew Brees could be available on the trade market.

Speaking Wednesday at the annual NFL Media coaches breakfast, Saints head coach Sean Payton said there is "not one iota" of truth to the rumours and Brees remains the franchise's starter.

Between trades, free agency, and cuts, the Saints have lost linebacker Curtis Lofton, running back Pierre Thomas, guard Ben Grubbs, tight end Jimmy Graham, and wide receiver Kenny Stills in less than a month. Grubbs, Graham and Stills were all traded for draft pick returns.

Brees, 36, has two years remaining on his five-year, $100 million contract. He is scheduled to make $18.75 million in 2015 and $19.75 million in 2016. According to Overthecap.com, Brees carries a $26.4 million cap hit this season for the Saints, who are currently projected to be over the $143.28 million salary cap for 2015.

The Super Bowl XLIX MVP threw for 4,952 yards with 33 touchdowns and 17 interceptions last season. The Saints finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told USA Today earlier this week the team has no plan to trade Brees.

The former Purdue standout joined the Saints in free agency prior to the 2006 NFL season. He owns an 87-56 career record with the team.
