OTTAWA - The Ottawa Redblacks agreed to a two-year contract extension with linebacker Damaso Munoz on Friday.

Munoz was scheduled to become a free agent next month.

The 29-year-old Miami native had a team-high 74 tackles last year with four sacks and three forced fumbles. He also returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown.

"Damaso has proven to be an extremely valuable member of the Redblacks, both on the field and in the locker room," general manager Marcel Desjardins said in a statement. "We were among the top defensive teams thanks to his contributions and leadership and we are happy that he has decided to remain in Ottawa."

Munoz began his CFL career in 2011 with Edmonton, spending three seasons with the Eskimos.
