Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy is set to miss significant time due to his lingering ankle injury.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Lacy needs surgery on his injured ankle and will be placed on injured reserve.

Lacy, 26, has rushed for 360 yards on 71 carries this season, the final year of his entry-level contract.

He rushed for just 758 last season after topping the 1,000-yard mark in each of his first two NFL seasons. The running back, who's listed at 234lbs, was maligned for his playing weight last season and appeared to be in better shape at training camp before returning to his previous size in recent weeks.

Packers running back James Starks is expected to miss at least three more weeks after undergoing knee surgery last week. The team traded for Knile Davis from the Chiefs on Tuesday and he is the only healthy running back on the team's roster. Don Jackson is expected to be elevated from the practice squad in Lacy's place.

The Packers (3-2) host the Chicago Bears on Thursday night.
