The 36-year-old is expected to finish up the season with the Toffees before joining the Rapids when the MLS summer transfer window opens in July. The transfer fee is believed to be in the $600-700,000 range and Howard is expected to sign a five-year deal worth $2 million a season.

A native of North Brunswick, New Jersey, Howard spent six seasons in MLS with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars and was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2001.

Howard signed for Manchester United in 2003 where he claimed an FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield. He joined Everton in 2006 and has started for the majority of his tenure, but has found himself second choice to Joel Robles this season.

Howard has been capped 106 times by the US men's national side, appearing in three World Cups and claiming the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Everton returns to action on Tuesday, away to Aston Villa.
