Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith underwent offseason ankle surgery, according to a report from ESPN.

The procedure was to clean up a high ankle sprain Smith suffered towards the end of last season that forced him to miss two games.

Smith had said he wouldn’t need surgery on the ankle earlier this offseason, but even after returning to play the final two games of the season, and the Pro Bowl, he ultimately elected to have the procedure.

Smith is expected to be ready for next season.
