The Saskatchewan Roughriders' trainer's room is getting crowded.

A day after placing linebacker Shea Emry on the six-game injured list, the team announced on Thursday that wide receiver Ryan Smith would be joining him there.

Smith, in his second year with the team out of North Dakota State, is the CFL's leading receiver of the young season with 251 yards. His two touchdown receptions are also good for a share of the league lead at his position and his 11 receptions put him fourth among receivers.

The 24-year-old had a breakout game in last Sunday's 42-40 double-overtime loss to the Toronto Argonauts. Smith caught a career-high eight passes, including a spectacular jumping reception, for 174 yards and a touchdown.

Though, the still winless team had expected Smith to be out for Friday's game at home against the BC Lions, losing Smith is a blow to an already banged-up group. Smith is eligible to return to action when the 'Riders visit the Ottawa Redblacks on August 30.

With starting quarterback Darian Durant out for the season after rupturing his his left Achilles tendon in a season-opening loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the team is expected to sign former Washington quarterback Keith Price on Thursday. Price spent part of last year on the Roughriders' practice roster after being released from the Seattle Seahawks in June. Price started for three years at Washington, finishing his Huskies career with 8,921 passing yards and 75 touchdowns, but has not appeared in a game since the Fight Hunger Bowl in December 2013.

The addition of Price means the Riders will now carry four quarterbacks on their active roster. Price joins Kevin Glenn, Brett Smith and Tino Sunseri.
