TORONTO -- Shaman Ghost's racing season is over.

Trainer Brian Lynch said Friday the Queen's Plate winner is currently enjoying a break from racing and won't return to the starter's gate until sometime in 2016.

"He's on some R and R . . . he's just having some time off at the moment," Lynch said. "He'll have the rest of the year off.

"He'll have a break through the heat of the summer and start up training down in Florida later in the year."

Shaman Ghost rallied to capture the Plate by 1 1/4-lengths ahead of Danish Dynaformer in a battle of 3/1 race favourites. The victory was sweet redemption for Lynch, who settled for second in the 2008 race when Ginger Brew finished second by a head to Not Bourbon, earning trainer Roger Attfield a record-tying eighth Plate victory.

But in this year's race, it was Attfield who had to settle for second with Danish Dynaformer.

Shaman Ghost continued his Canadian Triple Crown quest by running in the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie, Ont., last month. But Breaking Lucky, a 13/1 longshot edged Shaman Ghost by a neck to win the 1 3/16-mile race on dirt.

Shaman Ghost finishes the season with four wins and a second-place finish in six starts. The Stronach Stables-owned horse amassed $846,200 in earning as a three-year-old.
