Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said Thursday that he doesn’t want to be traded. Sherman made the remarks to Gee Scott of 710 ESPN Seattle.

Sherman’s comments came after he laughed off trade rumours when he appeared on First Take last week. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll addressed the rumours yesterday, but said he doesn’t anticipate a deal. Linebacker K.J. Wright, Sherman’s teammate, also chimed in, saying he didn’t believe Sherman was going anywhere either.

Sherman has been the subject of trade rumours recently, starting with former NFL general manager Mike Lombardi, who said he thought the Seahawks could be open to moving Sherman.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots have already reached out to Seattle regarding Sherman’s availability, but didn’t reach a deal. However, that was before they signed free-agent corner Stephon Gilmore to a five-year deal. Already with Malcolm Butler and now Gilmore, it’s unlikely that the Patriots would pursue Sherman further.

Sherman was a key part of the Seahawks’ 2014 Super Bowl run and is widely considered one of football’s best defensive players. Last season, Sherman had four interceptions and 13 passes defenced.
